Student Housing Initiative
Habitat for Students provides free, stable housing near the University of Kansas for youth who have aged out of the foster care system — paired with the community, mentorship, and support they need to succeed.
Funding the future
Foster youth are enrolling in college — but unstable housing, lost support at age 21, and limited mentoring stop too many before they finish. HFS funds the whole journey: a safe place to live, essential needs covered, and a community behind them from move-in day to graduation.
Brick by brick — like Kansas always has. Every home we build is one more step on the path from foster care to a future.
First project
Our first housing project is currently underway — just a few blocks from KU's Ambler Rec Center. Brick by brick, we are laying the foundation for a safe place to live while foster students pursue their education and build their futures. This isn't a plan on paper. It's walls going up, a home being built, and a young person's future being secured. We're just getting started.
See build progressWe provide free, stable housing near KU so foster youth can focus on school — not survival.
Through CASA/GAL advocates, Greek philanthropy partners, and KU's Fostering Jayhawks for Success, students are never alone.
We wrap students in academic, social, and professional support so they can thrive as adults — not just survive.
Two ways to give
A foster student can't pursue a future without a stable foundation. Your giving builds both — in order.
